An overview of Pieland’s first month since revealing the Octopies NFTs

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since we first revealed the artwork of all the minted Octopies on March 14, aka Pi Day. In our first week, we launched a feature called MyPies, a Wikipiedia, and a poker night with Knights of Degen and Purrnelope’s Country Club. Since then, we have continued to pack in quite a lot, so we wanted to review the major events in the Pieland community.

Unique and Fresh NFTs

Maybe you’ve noticed some U.F.O.s (aka Unique and Fresh Octopies) turning up in Pieland. Our very talented artist Ryan Eaid has released a flurry of special one-of-ones in the last few weeks. Because these Octopies are rare, moving forward you can expect to see a slow down in the cadence of when these 1 of 1 NFTs are released. Here are the new Octopies that have been added to the world of Pieland:

  • St. Pietrick — A reward for our very first Compietition
  • Frodough — A reward for the start of our story-telling Compietitions
  • Piebbit — The first Red Envelope we have revealed
  • Pieballer — A custom 1 of 1 for the winner of a community giveaway
  • Happy Piemore — A custom 1 of 1 for the winner of a community giveaway

We also collaborated with two NFT projects, Driverz and Fungize, which released unique Pieland inspired NFTs for our community members. And we released four special Pieland NFTs for our community that were earned through our compietitions and through celebratory events. These NFTs are:

  • Pieliever Badge — Our first PieOAP, for all of those who took part in the preorder.
  • Pieoneer Badge — Our second PieOAP, for everyone holding an Octopie after reveal.
  • The Piesons Ovens — The first Oven we released, for those who completed the Pieson Oven Compietition
  • The Pieborgs Ovens — Our next Oven, from the Pieson Oven Compietition.

In the coming weeks, we’ll serve up seven more unique Oven NFTs — one for each of the nine Octopie Slices — and a range of PieOAPs to celebrate our awesome community. We will continue to look at different ways to innovate and provide special NFTs for our Octopie holders. In the meantime, keep your eyes on the pies for future chances to win a one-of-one, like the Easter Egg Compietition that is running until at least April 19th.

Pieland Scavenger Hunt

There’s still time to complete this latest competition in our Discord server. Solve the riddles and progress your way through the channels. As you go, you’ll pick up Easter Eggs along the way. Collect them all to solve the final clue. Everyone who successfully completes this scavenger hunt and submits their details will be entered for a drawing of a 1 of 1 chocolate Octopie. This hunt ends on April 19 at 9:00AM PST, so hop to it!

Cross-Chain Fun

In early April, we announced that Pieland acquired 500 NFTs from some-place, a mobile metaverse project built on the Flow blockchain. We’re proud and excited to share this experience with the Pieland community. You can read more about them in their Discord.

We will be distributing these NFTs — the some-place potions — to our community and partners over the coming weeks. These potions are the some-place Genesis NFTs, and people that are lucky enough to be holding one can get early access to their metaverse experience, as well as other perks to come. We’ve already given away over 50 of these NFTs and will have plenty more fun ways to win one.

The Power of the Pieland Community

We’re constantly blown away by Pieland’s bighearted community. Last week, some of our community members gathered together and donated from their own personal NFTs collection for a Pieland community wide giveaway. These giveaways include a Pirates of The Metaverse NFT, 3 Top Shot NFTs, a National Parks NFT, and a couple of some-place NFTs. This community driven giveaway was so awesome to see, and is something we will continue to support and work with you all on. We also ran giveaways ourselves for the Pieland community, including 100 whitelist spots for Coffee Junkie NFTs, exclusive for Octopie holders.

The Pieland community has also shown us why giving Octopie holders the rights to the IP of the NFTs they owned was such a good move, with fan made art like you can see below. We’ve seen baseball caps, phone case covers, golf balls, and more, all with Octopie and Pieland NFT artwork on them. That is just freaking awesome.

The Octopies are calling…

Of course, we can’t talk about the community and not talk about the exciting, fan made Pieland Journal Twitter account. This Octopie collector has created some sweet images and savory fan made lore to go along with the world of Pies. And who knows, maybe some of it will make its way into the Pieland Wikipiedia.

Rarity tools

Something else we’ve been baking these last few weeks was getting Octopies into even more places! You can now find Pieland on some of the most well-known rarity-checking sites. Here’s a list of all the places to check out the rarity and stats of your Octopies:

https://raritysniffer.com/viewcollection/pieland
https://raritysniper.com/pieland
https://www.gem.xyz/collection/pieland/?sort=rarity_asc
https://pieland.io/mypies

We want to make it clear that the rarity numbers may differ among sites because of differing organizational algorithms and definitions of rarity. And let’s be clear — the best Octopies to collect are the ones you like the most.

What’s next?

It’s certainly been a busy month for all of us on the Pieland team. We’ve formally added four new team members, Lauren, Christian, Conor, and Karim, who you may see chatting it up in the Discord channels. For our Compietitions, you can expect us to continue to provide an opportunity to win 1 Octopie Oven each week for the next four to six weeks, with fun and exciting Compietitions running most weekends, offering a range of different prizes. Some of these will come from collaborations with other NFT projects, crypto tokens, special Pieland NFTs, and more.

We’ve also had our developer, Bonfire, working hard on some upgrades to MyPies. We expect them to roll out in the next few days, helping to level up the way you view your Pieland NFTs. It will also include some under-the-hood upgrades for improving the site in the future. The more immediate upgrades will include the ability to see MyPies for all Pies even when not connected, a way to view other community members’ Octopies in MyPies, performance improvements, and more.

Finally, we’re really excited to announce that we have been hard at work on the early stages of a Pieland-themed children’s book. This will allow our youngest fans to get a taste of the Pies, learn about NFTs, and see our lead designer’s fantastic art. For our community, it also provides another way for us to grow and expand the potential ingredients that can form the future of Pieland. We’ll be looking to share more updates on this with you all soon. We’re also exploring some early concepts for Pieland board games. In the meantime, if these ideas excite you and you might want to be involved, feel free to reach out.

Thank you, Pieland community, for making the last 30 days so special. We can’t wait for what the next month will bring. WAGMP.
