A Look Back At 2022

2022 was a big year in Pieland. We launched our first collection of Octopies in February, and it’s been a wild ride ever since then. We’re so thankful for our team and community members for all that was accomplished as a Piemily! In the coming weeks, we’ll talk more about what’s cooking up in the Pieland Oven in 2023. But first, we want to take a look at some highlights from 2022. It was a busy time for the world of Pieland — we had dozens of Compietitions, new lore revealed, fun contests, and a range of positive charitable impact.

One of our most popular features for our community has been the MyPies tool. Released shortly after Pieland launched, it has been upgraded and adjusted consistently throughout the year. New features have been added — allowing multiple NFT collections, improved loading times, better search options, and more. It’s been the centerpiece for our Compietitions and, thanks to direct links to OpenSea and LooksRare, is often used by community members looking for their next Pieland NFT. We’re looking forward to more updates and improvements coming to MyPies in the future.

MyPies lets people search by trait, Slice, or even different Pieland NFT collections.

When it comes to community fun, a huge highlight in the last year was the first Pieland Boss Battle. This was a special Compietition where community members submitted their Pies to do damage to “Scraps”, a 3 headed monster that inhabited one of Pieland’s islands! Special, hidden combinations of Octopies earned bonus damage, and the more damage somebody did, the higher they would be on the Boss Battle Leaderboards. The higher the leaderboard position, the higher the chance at some prizes! For the Pieland team, our favorite part of this event was how much everyone came together to share tips and ideas about which Octopies to submit — truly showing why this community is so special!

That wasn’t the first time the Pieland community worked together to take on a task. In April, we launched a special Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt in our Discord. This tasked our community with solving difficult riddles to unlock the next clue, collecting easter eggs along the way. The community worked together to figure it out as a team, which is one of our favorite parts of baking up the Pieland world.

Throughout 2022, we’ve seen a range of new NFTs in the Pieland collection: PieOAPs, the special Oven NFTs, the unique 1 of 1s and Doughdiacs, and the Pieland Map pieces. These NFTs were rewards for various types of activity and Compietitions. Some have gone on to unlock unique rewards. For example, community members who scooped up all four of the Map pieces were rewarded with a complete Pieland Map NFT. Just recently, we announced that people who were holding the complete Pieland Map NFT would be able to claim a physical poster of the map of Pieland — a tangible, real life reward for our community members.

Pieland itself had a tangible presence at a range of NFT events. We talked Pieland at crypto meetups that were local to some of the Piemilia, and our team members were all-hands-on-deck on the ground at NFT.NYC. Meaning that last year, we even got to meet some of our Pieple in person! We also had a presence in other ways, such as when Pieland featured on the International NFT Day website

But that’s not the only way that Pieland has entered the physical world. We also saw the family friendly art contests, where the parents in our community were encouraged to get their kids involved. In this art contest, the KiddoPies created home-made homages to Octopies, and a few lucky winning entries were then sent into our Pieland lab where we turned them into real life plushies. It was truly a one-of-a-kind physical gift for the lucky winners.

Our penchant for adding a fun, unique, and creative twist to things isn’t limited to our community events. Giving back to the wider world is very important to Pieland, and we made it a priority throughout 2022. Be it the 13,000+ trees we planted, supporting local art in Colombia by having an Octopie mural painted, the many organizations who received donations through #WednesdayFrensday, or our first fine art auction which donated a piece of the final sales price — we’re proud to have made a positive impact on this world together with you.

Everything that we’ve just described wouldn’t have been possible without the Pieland story itself. The story of Pieland is housed in our Wikipiedia, where you can find in-depth information on the Slices, the geography of Pieland, and updates on the Fellowship of the Octopies and their hunt to learn why the Ovens remain cold. If you haven’t followed along then fair warning — there are a lot of twists and turns throughout!

We ended the year with a special glimpse of things to come in the vast world of Pieland in our Piedvent Calendar, with never-before-seen images of Pielands cities, terrain, animals, and even a freshly baked Octopie or two! We can’t wait to share more of what has been baked behind the scenes.

Looking at 2023, we’re excited to continue to expand the world of Pieland. While some things will remain under wraps for now, we’ll be sharing what we’re most excited to be working on this year. We know that the second half of 2022 has been a rough time in the NFT and Crypto space. But the fire that fuels the passion in Pieland is still just heating up, and we’re so honored to share that passion with you all!
